Mother’s Market and Kitchen is an organic grocery store that holds a juice bar, deli, and salad bar within the Costa Mesa location. On October 31st there was a grand opening for a second Mother’s Market location on 17th street.
Mother’s Market is open for breakfast and lunch, is vegan friendly and only uses fair trade products and grass fed real chicken. The concept of the store is brand new to Mother’s doing a build a bowl idea similar to Chipotle. For breakfast, staff members guide you through the large arrangement of options and help you assemble your bowl. For a bowl there is a choice of base (options: tofu scramble, egg whites, and scrambled eggs) and then there is a choice of two toppings plus garnishes. If a hot bowl doesn’t appeal to you there are other breakfast options available. A customizable yogurt fruit bowl with yogurt options being plain greek yogurt, almond, and cashew. A less popular item is the hot oatmeal bowl with a choice of milk varying from 2% milk to rice milk and everything in between. Just like the yogurt bowl it is customizable with whatever fruit is available. Panini’s, and soup are also available throughout the day and are freshly made every morning.
During the lunch hour the food is quickly swapped with different options but the concept remains the same. Eaters can pick their base, either cauliflower rice, brown rice or ancient grains, with a choice of mixed greens or romaine lettuce over the base. My favorite is the soft cauliflower rice topped with crunchy romaine lettuce. Protein is then selected over the base. There is tofu, veggie patties, salmon, meatballs, or chicken to pick from. I’ve only tried the tofu but it is so good and filling. Each bowl comes with two side toppings out of three available. There are roasted potatoes, grilled vegetables, or yams. I highly recommend the yams because I had never had yams before I tried them at this restaurant and now I constantly crave them, though all three are delicious. Once the base, protein, and toppings have been selected an unlimited amount of garnishes are available with the only exception being the avocado which will cost a bit extra. There is a juice bar open from 8am to closing time at 8pm that also offers smoothies. If you are a discernible eater or not and are looking for fresh, healthy, organic, and tasty food, i highly recommend trying Mother’s Market and Kitchen.

Do Americans need guns in order to feel protected ? According to, Gun rights vs Gun Control studies in OpenSecrets.Org, “89 guns are owned within every 100 people. “ Gun owners argue they have a right to bear arms according to the 2nd amendment, but when the 2nd amendment was created back in 1791, the guns that exist now did not. Our founding fathers used guns then known as muskets or flintlock pistols, which could fire 3 bullets in one minute and shoot as far as 50 meters. While the guns that exist today are capable of firing 45 shots a minute and have a range of 550 meters at accuracy.
These are murder weapons, created to kill, to hunt, and to provoke fear. Guns should be more regulated or taken off the streets in order to prevent more tragedy.
According to Amanda Macmillan a gun control advocate, “Everyday 96 Americans die due to gun violence. 1,300 students die every year due to gun related injuries in the United States and about 50 women a month are shot by their intimate partners with a household gun… about 13,000 people die a year in gun homicides…”
“In 2017 a music festival that took place in Las Vegas , which killed 58 concertgoers and injured hundreds more, was considered the United States’ deadliest mass shooting in history. Just 16 months earlier, a gunman armed with a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle murdered 49 people and injured 58 at an Orlando nightclub in what was then the country's worst mass shooting.”
‘In 2015, followed by the San Bernardino incident on Dec. 2, the very next day the Senate rejected a bill to tighten background check requirements on would-be gun buyers, just as it did in 2013. Shortly after, a lone gunman killed six adults and 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.’ Why isn’t the government doing anything to stop this? People are dying, innocent lives are being lost and the only thing offered by the government are condolences that don’t bring back the lives stolen at the hands of a killer, by the bullets in the guns the National Rifle Association ( NRA) keep pushing and protecting. The NRA benefits some democrats and Republicans such as our president, Donald Trump. The NRA spent 30 million dollars to elect him as president and continue to support him as does Trump. In 2018 alone, according to Gun Violence Archive, “there have been 48,913 incidents, 12,447 deaths, and 306 mass shootings in the United States.”
On Sunday, October 27, an armed man entered the Tree of Life, Synagogue church in Pittsburgh. Loaded with three .357 caliber handguns and an AR-15 rifle he took rage upon the Jewish group. The youngest to die was 54 and the oldest was 97 years of age. In total 11 were murdered.
If a place where you go to pray is not safe, then where is ?
On Wednesday November 7, just over a week after the shooting in Pittsburgh another mass shooting occurred. In a popular music bar in a Southern California club, 11 college students and a local county sheriff who responded to the call lost their life.
Protest gun rights and make a difference by speaking out about the horror that is guns in the United States. Vote against those who continue to support and be supported by the NRA. Currently Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and Marco Rubio from the Republican party support Gun Rights. Paul Ryan has received a sum of $352,464 in support from the NRA. While Marco Rubio has put $1,008,030 of his own money into supporting gun rights. Mitch McConnell has invested $771, 175 and received $135,350 in return.
