Mother’s Market and Kitchen is an organic grocery store that holds a juice bar, deli, and salad bar within the Costa Mesa location. On October 31st there was a grand opening for a second Mother’s Market location on 17th street.
Mother’s Market is open for breakfast and lunch, is vegan friendly and only uses fair trade products and grass fed real chicken. The concept of the store is brand new to Mother’s doing a build a bowl idea similar to Chipotle. For breakfast, staff members guide you through the large arrangement of options and help you assemble your bowl. For a bowl there is a choice  of base (options: tofu scramble, egg whites, and scrambled eggs) and then there is a choice of two toppings plus garnishes. If a hot bowl doesn’t appeal to you there are other breakfast options available. A customizable yogurt fruit bowl with yogurt options being plain greek yogurt, almond, and cashew. A less popular item is the hot oatmeal bowl with a choice of milk varying from 2% milk to rice milk and everything in between. Just like the yogurt bowl it is customizable with whatever fruit is available. Panini’s, and soup are also available throughout the day and are freshly made every morning.
During the lunch hour the food is quickly swapped with different options but the concept remains the same. Eaters can pick their base, either cauliflower rice, brown rice or ancient grains, with a choice of  mixed greens or romaine lettuce over the base. My favorite is the soft cauliflower rice topped with crunchy romaine lettuce. Protein is then selected over the base. There is tofu, veggie patties, salmon, meatballs, or chicken to pick from. I’ve only tried the tofu but it is so good and filling. Each bowl comes with two side toppings out of three available. There are roasted potatoes, grilled vegetables, or yams. I highly recommend the yams because I had never had yams before I tried them at this restaurant and now I constantly crave them, though all three are delicious. Once the base, protein, and toppings have been selected  an unlimited amount of garnishes are available with the only exception being the avocado which will cost a bit extra. There is a juice bar open from 8am to closing time at 8pm that also offers smoothies. If you are a discernible eater or not and are looking for fresh, healthy, organic, and tasty food, i highly recommend trying Mother’s Market and Kitchen.
